I think of my Expression as a prnter, ProvoCraft is saying that I can only use their software to cut images. I feel that is really unfair. The cartridges for the Cricut were expense and seldom on sale, so it really limited my creativity. Since I discovered "Sure Cuts a Lot" I have purchased additional PC items to support my cutting. If my Expression stops working with SCAL and I am unable to use my machine expect with PC cartridges - I too will hang up my shingle and no more Provo Craft items for me.

Trina
April 7, 2011 at 11:53 pm | Permalink I really like all the fine comments above and this debate. But to us as crafters it does not matter a whit about ProvoCraft’s assertions about code. They put no warning on the box for the Expression one can read prior to purchase that you cannot use it with third party sofware. I had MTC prior to the Expression, and bought my Expression with every intention of using it with MTC to design freely. After all, I reasoned, there is SCAL, and it does it, and there are no problems out there regarding doing so… I also purchased SCAL, but because of the advantages that I perceived in MTC, stuck with it as the developer worked with us to improve it even more. Not my fault PC didn’t have box warnings on their product, but it’s now my problem that my machine is not as useful as I perceived it and up to the standards I feel I was actually promised by the manufacturer when I purchased. For my purposes now, it’s a limited and useless object, I can put a plant in it on my patio! People can argue the legal issues and what PC’s rights are till the cows come home, it will not matter a whit. The proof is in the pudding, watch consumer behvior. PC created enemies by suing MTC because it took away our ability to craft in a way we were and had every right to continue dong, as a result they are losing business and will lose MORE as they create enemies in the SCAL community. We are not causing this loss to PC, we are just reacting to what we perceive was done to us in a protective mode, we lost something, doesn’t anyone take that into consideration? Sure, the people who use carts exclusively are happy, they did not expect anything but what they got, and can continue craft with their machines just as they intended and expected to. What about US, those of us who got their cash gobbled in the mouths of the PC machine and now have a loser machine we paid for? They did this to KEEP cash and gouge more money out of us (on what many would say are false pretenses… Oh, isn’t accepting money on a false pretense and taking money for it deceiving customers defined as fraud?) Well, they thought we would take it with just a little disappointment, as any ‘reasonable’ person would see the correctness of their stance. (I’m reasonable, college eductated, corporate trained, so who is not ‘reasonable’ or wise? Maybe we are MORE wise and reasonable than the average bear, we were reasonable enough to stick through with PC throuh lots of disappointments, what about that was not reasonable?) I see immense greed and posturing to rip off the little guy here. And bottom line, as I said, doesn’t matter to us as users WHAT legal issues exist that are out of our control, we don’t have to apologize or explain our stance to anyone. We feel ripped off, and after being burned, yet again, just won’t buy their products. I don’t see them apologizing to those they sold their machines to with NO warnings on the box, and refunding our money for our machines, do you? So where is the integrity? To me I bought a flawed product, it was sold to me with liminted usefulness and did not conform to my expectations which were PLANTED in me as a consumer by the manufacturer. Now they show no conscience to those of us who admired their product, spent for it, and in addition bought many consumables like Cartridges, etc. to use that machine. They were making money, didn’t deliver, so now they are not going to make any more money from US.Simple, mess me up and I won’t like you. I think PC owes those who wanted to use MTC and SCAL with their machines an aplogy, rather than writing a letter of rationalization to explain how right they are. Returning our money to us for purchases would be more than a nice gesture, and perhaps even legally advisable, or how about at least having a turn in and giving dissatisfied customers part of our money in recognition and acceptance of their responsibility in regards to this customer dissatisfactionl. But instead they keep rationalizing it, taking NO responsiblity for their act, and want US to be reasonable? I ask you, who is it who is really being unreasonable? We purchased based on their promises and did not get what we paid for. And now, with rationalizations and new products, it seems this ‘company’ wants to suck us dry for more money and their gimmicky programs and products. NOPE, no more; once bitten twice shy! Regardless of how ‘RIGHT’ PC may feel, there is such a thing as integrity, honor and morality as well as law. There is such a thing as conscience and honesty. People do things all day long that go just up and under the law to the edge without going over the law that are not crimes, and get away with it, but that does not make their behavior moral acts. I believe what they did to their customers, the ones who expected and expect what I did when they bought is immoral, and lacking in integrity or any sense of responsiblity. It’s a totally take, take attitude with no two way street. And you know, I’ve met a lot of people who are thorough takers and don’t give much of a darned about others in relationships. This is no different, with such people who are takers and never give back, they don’t last long with me and I walk away quickly. Same thing here, I’m kicking PC to the CURB! Considering what has happened here, it would be unreasonable for others and myself NOT to dump them. Karma is a bummer, huh?

Awaiting a new book....

Mokume Gani was one of the first techniques that I fell in love with. I felt comfortable and confident using this technique. I have not always made time for scientific experimentation and I think it has stifled my creativity. But Julie Picarello pushed this technique to a new level. I have admired her work since, I discovered her pieces on Flickr. A couple of times I saw classes she was teaching, but I was not able to attend. Julie has now decided to publish a book, AND WHAT A BOOK. I was so excited that I ordered a copy of the book the first time I saw it. Now, I'm like waiting for the blessed event - I sit in waiting for my new copy of the new book. I wish, I had been among the select few who are reading and using the book now, but I am but a common-er and I will have to wait for my copy. So I will have to learn to relax while I wait. She is passionate about handcrafted jewelry because it is completely unique and so expressive. Different accessories yield different looks and reveal different aspects of the wearer's personality. She is also passionate about new age techniques such as meditation, color therapy, and crystal healing. Therefore, she decided to combine two passions and create a collection of handcrafted regalia for adults. Her collection is not only beautiful but also serves to increase energy, enhance the spiritual health, and well-being of the wearer. She has also created different lines within the collection that cater to the tastes of different individuals: the Bliss Baubles line includes finery that inspires the wearer to achieve happiness; Goddess Gear line includes treasures that encourage the feminine energy to come forth; Harmony Healing line includes adornments with gemstones and crystals that aid in balancing; Kundalini Kreations line includes accessories that resonate with the colors of the primary chakras. I mixed some clay today using Maggie Maggio's system. I like this method best. I can 'somewhat' control the amount of clay that gets mixed. I love Cindy Lietz's color palettes, but sometimes the parts require you to mix large amounts of clay. Just today I worked on organizing my data files. I decided to save all the recipes together with a picture of the palette. I went back through Cindy's blog and found the pictures of the color palettes. Then I renamed all the color recipes so that they would be with the palette image. I think now when I look through the computer for a color the picture will be close by.
I have posted a picture of my files showing the details. I hope you can see that the recipes are listed for example 22-1a..., 2a, 3a, 4a, then the picture of the color palette, with all the colors. This art is really growing. I have seen some clay food on Etsy, YouTube, Claylessons and etc. places. At first I did not think about using these items in doll houses, but that is a perfect application for these items. I have seen some items turned into jewelry piece. Oh how cute! Now I do have a young and small niece in my life. She is an old spirit, so at 2 years old, she never puts inappropriate items into her month. But my mind does wonder ... if she saw a miniature polymer clay food item, would she try to eat it? I HOPE NOT. Those of who have these very realistic looking miniature food, will have to be very careful to make sure little ones, don't accidentally eat polymer clay. This area is so packed with crafters events and shows. I use to live in Detroit and crafting in that area was wonderful, and I miss that. One of the best craft source is in Metro Detroit (Munro Crafts). Well Fish Princess makes hand crafted artisan jewelry using natural gemstones, pearls, beach stones, beach glass, fossils, Swarovski crystals,sterling silver, gold and copper. All her items are made by her, and inspired by nature! If you are in or near Michigan she has a list of shows on her blog telling where she'll be during the summer. It has been on the market for about a year now but it is not carried by many craft suppliers. If you are interested in purchasing this clay I would suggested that you do a Yahoo/Google search to find a supplier.
As a member of the New York Polymer Clay Guild I was given a small batch of the Pardo Clay. My assignment is to report back my findings. I have had this batch for several months and I have not motivated myself to play with this new clay. So now I am doing so. I am considering writing a series of short blogs about this new product.
First impression – different marketing strategy from all the polymers in the past, is my first thought. Is there a special reason why the manufacturer packaged this clay as balls instead of blocks? If Pardo really wanted to step in to an existing artistic world, why would they change the way the polymer clay is measured. For years artists have sliced their blocks into fractional pieces for color mixing. (Halves, 1/16 and etc.) So when mixing Pardo to achieve new colors, an individual is going to attempt to cut the balls into 1/16’s and 1/8’s to mix colors. I think not. So with my first impression I would say it may have not been a good idea to market their product as balls of clay. I must say the balls are cute, though.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 20px 20px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 162px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/TB1Kfkx-1mI/AAAAAAAAAgg/YN-HexCQOV8/s200/100_0853.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5484621827516847714" />

LotusMira This Week's Feature

Today's artist is a graduate student, earning both a law degree (JD) and a masters (MA). With this heavy academic load, I marvel at the fact that LotusMira is able to find time to be so creative. She has a blog you can visit and some how she finds time to twitter. Most of her current projects involve working with solder. She loves vintage imagery, found items, and ephemera. She also really enjoy the steampunk aesthetic. She thinks there is a lot of value both in the artistic chaos of collage, as well as in the simple beauty of something classic. Well her bracelets and earrings are a true statement of classic design. I really like these shard china earrings. The pink flower bead at the bottom, really draws me to these earrings.

So now that I have introduced you to LotusMira please do visit her shop, leave a heart or two, and consider purchasing her wonderful jewelry.

CK Silver - BESTeam Member Feature

I am pleased to feature a talented jewelry artist this week. Some weeks I try the lessons and others I don't. Well now I have decided to commit myself to attempting the lessons. So this Friday the lesson was a Zebra print cane. I modified the cane to a tiger print cane. I used Premo gold (with mica) and black to create the cane. The gold clay was somewhat of a scrap clay. I surmised that there was a bit of brown clay mixed in with the gold. It was probably a little bit of brown, added. I followed the video half way through. When I began to slice the black stripe pieces, I decided to immediately add them to the gold block. It definitely was not as neat as Cindy's block. When I reduced the cane, following her recommendations about shaping each piece, I was pleased with the results.

I have made a tiger cane before using Desiree's tutorial. In her tutorial I used a skinner blend to create the background. The background was a round log and the strips were added to it. There as in now I was pleased with the stripes, but my skinner blend did not turn out very well. I would say that the amount of blended color was too small. So the blend too quickly jumped from the liter color to the dark color.

Mystic Wynd this Week's Feature

Take a glance at who Mystic Wind is and her shop. Let them pamper your skin with a little taste of luxury!

Six years ago, Christina and Mike were like most Alaskans - tough, rugged, self-reliant ... and itchy. Alaska can be a harsh place to live, especially in winter, when below-zero temperatures and frigid winds combat you on a daily basis. Their skin was dry and scaly. Their kids' skin was dry and scaly. It was not a pretty sight.

Then they discovered the joys of handmade soap. They were instantly addicted, and they learned to make their own soaps and body products. They also started learning about the plants and herbs that grew so abundantly around them in the summertime. . Well I had a Makin Clay extruder that I purchased from Michael’s Arts and Craft store. The clay extruder that I purchased came in a nice plastic box. After losing my extruder I looked to replace it, but I wanted a box with it. Michael’s had stopped stocking the extruder just about the time I decided to replace my extruder. I looked in stores from the Maryland Easter Shore to the New York Long Island – and I could not find the extruder with a nice neat plastic box to contain all the pieces. So after my store to store search turned up empty, I went to the internet. After searching for some time with no luck, I started to consider purchasing the extruder without the container. Without the container meant the price would need to be comparable.
Well there is a new Michael’s in town. So I trip over to the new Michael’s to see that it had new products, too. Among the new stuff was a new clay extruder by Walnut Hollow. Looking very nice I must say; in a plastic box, has a foldable handle, and lots of different shape discs. I had a nice coupon from the store so I decided to purchase the extruder. After purchasing the extruder, I rushed home to see if the extra discs, that I still had from the Makin Clay extruder, would fit the new one. Well, I dug out my old disk, and they FIT. Well, wait a minute the package for the new extruder say it was made by “Walnut Hollow”. So now Walnut Hollow is selling products at Michael’s under their original name.
The plunger still works with a cranking handle. The handle is designed to rotate continuously. With this extruder you don’t have to create a handle attachment for easy cranking. The handle folds in half for easy storage. The case stored 20 discs and three rubber o rings. If you have discs from a Makin’s Professional Ultimate Clay Extruder they will work with the Walnut Hollow Clay Extruder Set.

Creamsicles were the Best

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 164px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/S7EU7uO_NOI/AAAAAAAAAbU/PcHsfen0TTc/s200/creamsicle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454163639978112226" />
Creamsicles were the best ice creams when I was a child. Kudos to Valerie Hall, the president of the New York Polymer Clay Guild. We had a clay date today and I made this pendant.

I had fun today at our clay date. There were a number of members that ventured out today to make something from clay. I alway worked on a bangle bracelet. I was not so please with my bracelet - it is stell a work in process. My ban shrank so I have to figure out what I am going to do. Should I cut it or leave it un-wearable for me. That would mean that I should pass the bracelet to someone that could fit it. With cutting it, I would need to figure out how I would attach a clasp to the bracelet. I could use wire to fashion a one of a kind clasp for the bangle.

Happy New Year

I hope this New Year brings everyone a more pleasurable year than the year before. Mine is starting out pretty good. Say congratulations. I have been accepted as a teacher on the new polymer clay tutorial website - www.claylessons.com.

I have my first tutorial in the works. I have to figure out why my camera did not upload all the pictures to the computer. When that is squared away - I can add photos to my tutorial on claygun usage, and post it. I am so excited, and we know that many times we have to make our own excitement.

Once again to everyone - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Sanding and Buffing

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SpX-QWJt57I/AAAAAAAAARk/nuGOuOHqSTA/s200/hollow+beads.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374481287114254258" />
I tried using biodegradable styrofoam to create hollow beads. They turned out pretty good. I hand sanded these beads, and after sanding I decided to try something new. I strung the beads together and then used my buffing bench grinder to buff one of the beads. The buffing gave a nice shine and the string kept the bead from flying off while buffing. I suggest that if you decide to string beads together for buffing that you hold the string in your hand while buffing. If the bead gets caught in the buffing wheel the string will keep the bead from flying away.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SpX-QytIo5I/AAAAAAAAARs/XX1gshdyCKA/s200/tumbled+color+samples.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374481294778999698" />
In my quest for new techniques I acquired a vibratory tumbler. I had a set of color samples beads that were already strung together. I decided that I didn't want to restring them after tumbling - so I left them strung together, as I placed them in the tumbler. These beads were strung together using plain fishing line. The strand of beads tumbled through the tumbler without any problems. After I tumbled the beads in the vibratory I used the buffer to buff the beads. The last two oval teal beads were not buffed, but all the other beads on this strand were buffed. I think they turned out okay, but I still would like to see a little more shine. I think my next test will be to tumble the beads with fabric squares to see if I can achieve more of a shine.
Sorry, I did have one concern about tumbling. I added a little water to the tumbler, just enough to wet the beads and rocks. While tumbling I did notice that there were brown marks on the light colored beads. I thought this happened because I did not wash the rock. I stopped the process and washed the rinsed the rocks off with water. I resumed tumbling for a total of three hours. I beads were smooth to the touch. In the bottom and middle side of the small bowl was this nasty looking brown sludge. I needed a brillo pad to remove most of it, a stain remained. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this scenario.

In Search of High Gloss

I just purchased a vibratory tumbler. While ‘cruising the web’ I stumbled upon some comments about the tumblers. One source sent me to a gun shop. Well the gun shops in the big city were very scary even on the web. Well my search sent me to a store 200 miles away, but less than 10 miles from my sister's house. Wow, I could visit my sister and the sporting goods store. So on Monday that is exactly what I did. I was surprised at how large the tumbler was. I purchased a Lyman Turbo Tumbler. The label on the box says "gives factory brass finish; twice as other tumblers; heavy-duty, thermally protected motor; quiet running; wide stable base w/protective motor shield; includes 1200 pro plus 600 pop top bowl and lid. This is a turbo twin pack. It was the last one on the shelf and it had been opened, so there were no papers inside the box. So I am looking for all the advice I can find about using the tumbler with polymer clay. I purchased some plastic "beanie baby" pellets to try. I haven't returned home yet, so I haven't been able to try them. Last night while I was reading I read about two other methods 1. Pea gravel from Home Depot, 2. Bon Ami pot cleanser. Well I might have to experiment to see which is best. Wish me luck.

Spending to support the addiction....

The last couple of weeks I found myself spending money on unusual things while satisfying my addiction. POLYMER CLAY is my addiction.

Item number 1 - DAP Tex Plus - Window & Door Foam Sealant. I was looking for a foam that cured hard. I needed a strong compound to strengthen something. I was not thinking. I could have saved my 8 dollars and used what I already had in the cupboard. There was Polymer Clay in the cupboard and in the end that was what I used. I guess I will use this sealant around the house.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/Sn_GgqsFYcI/AAAAAAAAARU/Bffmwnu3_-0/s200/dap.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368227545366225346" />
Item number 2 - Biodegradeable Packing chips. Now I know I have some in my garage, 5 hours away. Another 8 dollars, and I had to sneak it in the house so my finance didn't see it. I didn't need 8 gallons worth of this stuff. I have made two beads inspired by Ronna Weltman's new book Ancient Modern, but now what do I do with the rest?
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/Sn_GgxOsZuI/AAAAAAAAARc/Vu5P1vHsXz0/s200/biodegradable_peanuts.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5368227547122001634" />
Item number 3 - cork clay. I am not going to buy this stuff. I am going to use what I already have - POLYMER CLAY. Well, Sculpey Ultra-light to be exact. I purchased it about two years ago, another time when I was spending without thinking.

Ice Cream - Anyone?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SnIjVzVMhiI/AAAAAAAAARA/2DTIDROLJeY/s200/ice+cream.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364388963615016482" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SnIjVmRlQrI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/zP8CI4i4MYc/s200/ice+cream+n+clay.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5364388960110199474" />
Bunny Tracks ice cream from Blue Bunny is a great snack while working with polymer clay. I discovered these individual serving containers about a year ago, right next to the quart container. After eating a couple of these servings I decided that I should see if I could recycle the container. First I started storing small clay cutters in them. Then one night I set some clay in an empty container. I got busy and discovered a week later that the clay did not melt the container. Wow, I now have a new place to store raw clay. Ice cream, anyone?

I created this posting because an incredible polymer artist is featuring a giveaway on her website. That is Humblebeads. I have seen so many beautiful canes. And I wasn't sure I too could created such stunning work. I know everything takes practice and improves with time. Now I needed to convince myself to invest in the time. Well I have finally started the journey.

I looked for tutorials that I liked. I found one, Sandy created a tutorial that I liked. After some time I started the tutorial. Blah - my skinner blend did not come out so good. I did not get the time of blend from color to color that I wanted. So my flower set for weeks on the work table. I even ignored it while I worked on other things. Finally this weekend I had a clay day with the New York Polymer Clay Guild, but I didn't take my unfinished cane. I left it home. I had an excellent day, and I created two good looking skinner blends. That good fortune sent me to my work table as soon as I returned home.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SmUIN8KXGXI/AAAAAAAAAQI/SIDQxW-Mf2s/s200/100_0319.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360699967035349362" />

All it needed was the final layer - translucent clay. Well, the cane was wrapped per the directions in the tutorial. The addition of little logs in the valleys after wrapping the cane, helped to reduce the effect of flatten flower petals at the edge. So I reduced the cane and while reducing it was a nice discovery to see that even the scrap ends looked good.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SmUJQNmUvzI/AAAAAAAAAQQ/6MwqCpPSK4g/s200/nine+slices.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360701105587404594" />

The final flower will work. Once it is reduce it still looks like a flower, therefore the original goal was met. Make a flower cane.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SmUJ4D-y_LI/AAAAAAAAAQY/2jPdORknRlU/s200/flower+cane.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5360701790200462514" />

Now I need to make some leaves.

linking

Add Url

Faux Malachite Beads

  Faux Malachite Beads
Originally uploaded by claycass
I took a close look at these faux beads, and I notice that they are very nice beads. The symbols are a non-verbal communication of aesthetic values, and the way of life for many West Africans. The symbols were painted through out the community. Most recently they were printed on fabric, and worn for celebrations. Each symbol has a name and a meaning.

These symbols have tickled at my creative muse for quit awhile. So, now I am designing a line of jewelry and accessory with adinkra symbols.

The current stamp design on these turquois and black polymer clay earrings is "Welcome". I think "Welcome" is an appropriate symbol for the beginning of this collection.

Japanese Flower

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 179px; height: 161px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/SejdYuOBSBI/AAAAAAAAAOo/KHCBwL8tMQ0/s200/flowerlg.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325749976159045650" />

I have been on a quest to learn how to make a Japanese folded flower out of clay. It is a skill that I will have to work at and refine but this was my first attempt.
I saw a flower created by an etsy artist. This flower sparked a need to learn how to create the flower. So I have searched high and low for a tutorial to use. I have fold two that are linked to my page. Last night I tried one.
Process: I know that the design sheet should be clay. The sheet I used was painted, therefore sometimes it was hard getting it to fold the way I wanted it to. The next time I will creat a clay sheet.

Now that we have the data?

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/Sec9c649W5I/AAAAAAAAAOY/c9a2rXFgSoc/s200/lilysm.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325292651442690962" />
Now that we have the data about our Etsy shops, how are we using this data? I was attempting to create a mosaic design with a lead glass look. In ways I think I accomplished my goal. I then proceeded to cover a glass bottle with this cane. I was successful and it looked good. That was some ten or more years ago. I moved and the bottles stayed wrapped up in paper packed away in my garage. When I rediscovered my shaker it had fine hair line cracks. Glass does expand and shrink in the elements. Now the question is how do I combat that problem when covering home decor items that might experience element changes. I have recieved some suggestions, but I think my helpers need to see the item to understand the problem. So here it is.

Future by Another Name

Future has changed its name. I was lead to a link which stated that the makers of Future changed the name of the product to "Pledge with Future Shine." Now I can rest! No, I have started to test a new product - Minwax Polycrylic. About a month ago I used some of this product on a piece of polymer clay. It is still shiny and non tacky. That is good. I used my fingernail to do a scratch test. The finish held up to the test.

Summer

Had a wonderful year experiencing and learning a new job. With the new job I found it difficult to work with polymer clay. As a result I have not been able to create. Well the summer is here and school is out. I am playing with clay again. Yeah!

Shortly after I started playing with the clay, I discovered that I did not have much Future Acrylic to create a shiny finish coat to my beads. In my search for this old familar product, I was disappointed to find out that I could not find it. Now I am trying to find a new product. It is a tricky process. The polymer clay does not always react well with different products. So now I have to experiment to see if I can find a new product to use with my beads. Buffing large quanities of small beads, are not my cup of tea. I perfer to dip my beads in a solution that will create a durable shiny finish.

Now my quest begins.

MG Pendant w/ Cass' Swirl Hinge

  MG Pendant w/ Cass' Swirl Hinge
Originally uploaded by claycass
I have been away. The pendant cried for more than just a jump ring.

I had just taken a wire jewelry class at the Wilmington Wire Show. So my creative juices dedicated doing something with the wire. Ahhh..... I learned to make nice swirls, cute swirls, round wire swirls. I like it. i like it.

Inspiration

I saw a cute domino pin. I am an instructor at a store and my class sizes are small. Will this new promotion help make my classes larger? The grapevine has said that the Clayfactor is no longer carrying Polyform products. They had close connection in the past. Only time will tell how this change will affect the industry. I know One Stroke certification cost $500, will the polymer clay classes be as expensive? Please post you feelings.

New Flickr Link

Summer Has Just Begone

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3jcG1Qik4ck/RnRB6ARQq8I/AAAAAAAAAAM/C4NF79QYsgk/s320/orgflower.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076755144714005442" />

Now summer has just begone.
